LADOT works with two citizen commissions appointed by the Mayor of Los Angeles and confirmed by the City Council.
The Transportation Commission has a number of duties and responsibilities under the Los Angeles Administrative Code authorized by the City Council:
Review of proposed ordinances regulating city streets (e.g. speed limits)
Oversight of off-street parking facilities
Control of the Special Parking Revenue Fund, subject to City Council approval
Regulation of vehicles for hire (e.g. ambulances) other than taxicabs
Mr. Eisenberg is the President and CEO of The Renaissance Group. He serves as a trustee for Marymount California University and the Port of Los Angeles High School for International Business and Maritime Studies.
Mr. Jones is the President and Co-Founder of the East Side Riders Bike Club. He served as Field Deputy for Council District 15 under Council member Joe Buscaino for seven years.
John Ly is a trial attorney. As a partner and founder of Liang Ly LLP, John has helped obtain multi-million dollar verdicts and has successfully defended clients in various disputes. John is devoted to serving his community. He dedicates his time to cases for victims of domestic violence and volunteering for Bet Tzedek Legal Services, the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association, and Asian Americans Advancing Justice.
Dr. Cris B. Liban is the Executive Officer of Environmental Compliance and Sustainability at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro). He oversees the agency's environmental, climate change, energy, electric vehicle and social sustainability initiatives. He had served in a variety of environmental engineering programs for various clients prior to coming to Metro. He has a doctorate in Environmental Science and Engineering from UCLA.
Jazmin Ortega is the Southern California Liaison to the California Department of Education, advising the State Superintendent of Public Instruction on communications, district and community relations for the southern half of the state. She graduated from the University of California, Riverside with a Bachelor of Arts in English. Ms. Ortega also serves on Metro’s Citizens Advisory Council.
Dr. Tejada is a professor at USC Computer Science Department, where she was awarded her Masters and Doctoral degrees in Computer Science in 1998 and 2002, respectively. As the academic community leader for the Anita Borg Institute, she is passionate about empowering a diverse tech community in Los Angeles. She founded Computing Savvy (CSavvy.org) research group at USC to engage and excite girls about Computer Science using Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.
Donna Choi is the Executive Director of the Downtown Arcadia Improvement Association, Community Benefit District. She has served as former Commissioner of the East Area Planning Commission. She has expertise in management, merchandising, and advertising.
TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION RECORDS
The Transportation Commission meets at 10 a.m. on the second Thursday of every month. The meetings are held in City Hall, Conference Room 1070, located at 200 N. Spring Street, Los Angeles, California 90012.
The Taxicab Commission has a number of duties and responsibilities under the Los Angeles Administrative Code authorized by the City Council:
Approves taxicab franchises, subject to City Council approval
Awards and revokes taxi franchise permits
Investigates and disciplines driver and company misconduct
Sets taxicab rates, subject to City Council approval
Sets taxicab operating rules and procedures
Mr. Spiegelman is the Sole Practitioner at the Spiegelman Media Law and Consulting. Mr. Spiegelman graduated as Class President from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law; J.D.
Mr. Pomakian currently serves as an Associate General Counsel with the Office of the General Counsel for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Mr. Pomakian received his Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Northridge in 1995 and his Juris Doctorate from Southwestern Law School.
Ms. Martinez is an executive manager for Diamond Landscaping, Inc. She was a graduate of Michigan State University with a BA in Communication. Ms. Martinez is active in the Los Angeles bicycle and walking communities and a world traveler.
Mr. Gorbis is an attorney in private practice. He has represented over 15,000 clients in 25 years of practice, including Russian language organizations and media outlets. Mr. Gorbis has multiple publications in areas of community relations, law, machine learning and related fields.
Ms. Kennedy is a business/corporate attorney for the Law Office of Jacqueline L. Kennedy. She graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law with a Juris Doctorate. Ms. Kennedy has pre-law corporate experience and is very active in community organizations throughout Los Angeles.
